The 28 best sights in Ketchikan (2024)

The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show, located in downtown Ketchikan, Alaska, is a world-renowned family-friendly event that showcases live logging and ax-throwing demonstrations by top loggers and lumberjacks. The show features professional ESPN athletes who are experts in logging sports, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors.

A friend recommended this to my wife for our AK cruise and we decided to book directly with the Great AK Lumberjack Show vs the boat. My wife was so excited about this and I went with her to keep her out of trouble. The show was fun to watch the interaction with the lumberjacks and the crowd and of course, amongst themselves. We enjoyed the entire show and worth our time in Ketchikan. Definitely fun for the kids, but it is a lumberjack show, so there are saws and loud noises. Please be mindful of that aspect, but worth the hour of fun.

It was a great show. It had the feeling of being scripted, but played it off so well. The hour long show went by so fast, and the action of the actual event was very insightful. They also provided history during the show which added that little extra. Good event to go to.

Only took an hour but was great fun.All the guys took their parts well in a well scripted fun competition. Was hosted quite well also with the young lady keeping it fun and upbeat.Really glad we went. They have (although basic) a great seating arrangement so good views are no problem. A surprisingly effective heating system. Sit a the back of the seating and it's warmer. We sat right at the front yet still felt the effect of it.A little expensive? MaybeFun? DefinatelyWould I go again? DefinatelyThanks guys

What a fun show! My family and I really enjoyed our time here! This was our first lumberjack show and our host (Mr. Lasagna) and the lumberjacks made it a memorable experience. They kept us laughing and in awe with their silly banter and skills!! It was an easy walk from the pier to the show. We bought tickets online and arrived a bit early to the 9:30 show. It was a full house but not a bad seat anywhere! They were wonderfully interactive with the families and put on a fun competition to highlight a lumberjack's strength, coordination, and balance, Don't miss The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show on your trip to Ketchikan! YO-HO!

It was a great show! They do well with engaging the crowd and having fun. The seats are shaded plus there are concessions and a gift ship up front. They also have axe throwing available afterwards which cool! Oh and they communicate with the cruise ships so you dont have to worry about missing your return.

What an awesome show! They get the crowd fired up and totally involved. These lumberjacks are extremely skilled at what they do and put on a great show. They really work hard to entertain the audience. Most definitely a must see!

All 13 members of the family loved the show! From ages 4 to 70’s - it was very entertaining. Location was easy to get to, the host was excellent and the lumberjacks were both funny and talented. It was the perfect amount of time and surprisingly funny too. Highly recommend for everyone!

A most entertaining one hour show! It was hosted as a competition between the US and Canada - if you have a particular preference for the country you would like to support, watch where you sit! The energy, skill and expertise on display was impressive. The show was peppered with facts about the logging history of southeast Alaska. Educational as well as entertaining! The venue was easy to reach - a short walk along the wharf from the cruise terminal.

This show was better than expected! We had so much fun. The entire team reacted so professionally when a gentleman in the audience had a medical emergency. The lumberjacks all jumped in to talk to the rest of the audience while emt's assisted. Once he was taken care of, they all got right back into the show without missing a beat. I am truly impressed! Great job guys.

Great show! The venue is small enough that any seat is a good seat to see everything. This was one of the less expensive excursion options, and it did not disappoint. If you have mobility issues or traveling with someone who does, this is a great option.

Jennifer P — Google review

A little bit kitschy, but very entertaining. The show lasts about an hour and shows off various lumberjack competition skills while having 2 teams compete against one another - "USA" and "Canada" - having half the audience cheer for one and the other half the other. It was good, clean fun! Some snacks are available before the start including drinks and $2 popcorn.

This was a really fun excursion. We also combined it with the crab feast. Totally recommend doing both. The lumberjack show is family friendly and there isn't a bad seat in the whole place. The lumberjacks were experienced and not hard on the eyes. The show is a little scripted but you learn alot and it is fun cheering on your team. They also have nice bathrooms and a cute giftshop.

Wow, this show is a must see!! The MC and lumberjacks will entertain ages 2 to 102. It was so sunny and warm in May 2023..especially when I heard Ketchikan gets 16ft of rain a year!! Whole town is friendly. My best stop on Alaskan cruise. BTW, Canadian team won that day...yahoo!!

Jane C — Google review

We had a great time cheering for the YS team ( half the audience was assigned to cheer for the Canadian team). The athletes are so highly skilled. It was a fun morning!! We were in a covered area and we’re warm and dry. They had to perform in the rain.

We bought our tickets from our cruise ship. Access from the pretty was super-easy with a 3 block walk. The staff were entertaining and the show was just like you'll see on television... block chopping, spring boards, chainsaw speed competition, and so on. However, there was also a show and storyline that included the crowd. It's probably a little cheaper to buy the ticket at the gate than from the cruise line. I'm glad we went, and it was a great intro to the area, but I'm not sure we'd ever return without friends or family with us who hadn't seen something like it.

We Love it..Great show! Very close near port...highly recommend get your ticket advance. They do sold out. Our was show was. Get there 30 min before the show a small venue. Choose your seat. This was one of the less expensive excursion and it did not disappointment. The have cutest souvenir store. mobility was not a issue. If is raining make sure bring rain ☔ gears....overall it great show. Worth every penny.

This is a fun family friendly show with some scripted action during several lumberjack events between two two-man teams. The athletic skills of the competitors were impressive and the MC "Sweetiepie Sue" was fun and entertaining too. Portions of the show are a little too scripted but understandable to keep the show entertaining for all ages.

Bryan W — Google review

Great show, fun to watch these amazing athletes performing on stage. During the contest style show American and Canadian teams will go thru several challenges with good old comedy and non stop action. A must see. Yo can buy your tickets at the entrance in an automatic terminal, they get instantly delivered to your email inbox.

We first saw the show sixteen years ago, and our recent visit was even better than we remembered. The family-friendly experience kept my 10-and 13-year olds entertained. The venue is just a short walk from the pier. It is well organized and easy. The show itself offers non-stop information, humor, and competition.

Great fun - and worth going, even if it was a bit pre-choreographed.It’s a bit of history and a bit of entertainment rolled into one.Lots of skilled involved with these challenge activities, so it’s great to watch. And yes, there is some audience participation too!

Gustav — Google review

Great local show. Easy walk from the cruise. Ship any of them. I would suggest you go here and check it out which show is about an hour long and it's very entertaining even for the little ones. I highly suggest you just go to their website, look for the available times and purchase the tickets there. No need to buy the tickets through the cruise.

MJ M — Google review

It was a really great experience- the guys were very impressive and, whilst scripted, the show definitely had entertainment and comedy value as well as being a display of skill. Lots of audience participation and loud chainsaws etc. Mean this probably isn't for you if you had a heavy night, but otherwise was great fun for kids and adults.

Fun experience for the whole family. As part of our cruise excursions, we decided to take the kids to the lumber Jack show. It was great for them. Our 11 and 7 year old were engaged the entire time and all of the performers did a great job putting on a show. My daughter was thrilled to get an autographed postcard from the lumberjacks. If you are going to the show, I would suggest sitting on either side area. We were a bit late and ended up sitting center stage. There are a few poles that block the view. Also, the show is very geared towards two teams (US and Canadian) when you sit in the center you are not really sure which team to cheer for. Not a huge deal but it does play into the performance. The price for tickets is on the higher end. It is expected, as this town existed because of the large tourist industry. For a family of 4 plan on spending close to $100 for the tickets. There are always upgrade options to spend more. Plan on getting to the show early for best election of seating. While at the show you will see ax chopping, chainsaw cutting, tree climbing, sawing, and water logging completions. There is a woman who is the ringleader keeping the show moving right along and keeping the audience very engaged.

The Lumberjack Show is the perfect entertainment for the family. All the guys there have awesome skills and they do a great performance while presenting their show with a funny competition. The host is nice and funny and even tell us some facts and history about the logging industry.Highly recommend it if you are visiting Ketchikan.

Jaime L — Google review

It was a lot of fun! A cool experience. Someone in my group said "medieval times but with lumberjacks" and they weren't wrong. There were less people though and so it felt more fresh and more personal. A great thing to do in Ketchican!

Samantha N — Google review

This was a fun event… the host was great in keeping the audience in tune what was going and have fun at the expense of the athletes ( trust me these guys are athletes). They split the competitors into two teams. they explain why the team are name as they are.. Canada s USA two of the biggest lumber yards in the area. only 100 miles separated the two campus and the rivalry began. Lots of fun, they keep their guest informed about the busses ( if you are on a cruise like us)Highly recommend for the whole family

TheFoodietravelers V — Google review

We had a great time competing as audience members for our assigned two-man team! It really added excitement and a sense of camaraderie amongst the audience and lumberjacks. The lumberjacks are award-winning lumberjacks, and they put on a great show showcasing their talent mixed with a bit of humor. It was our favorite excursion during our Alaskan cruise.

Kathy G — Google review

The show was very very entertaining. We heard the loud cheering from the outside when we walked by and wondered what it was. And when we went in - we understood why (and I'm not gonna spoil you with why). The atmosphere was great, the timber sportsmen are really entertaining. Initially I was hesitant on watching the show even when my friend recommended it - but after the show, I truly know why. It's definitely a great experience to go to if you are going to Ketchikan, AK.P.S. You can buy tickets online and not necessarily through the cruise excursions.

Isabel S — Google review

This wasn't my first choice of activities when planning our trip, but I'm so glad we booked this event! After the exciting tour we had of the Misty fjords and the beginning of our trip this was the perfect event to just have fun and shout & yell & make noise in general! We just dove right into the story and the experience and practically lost our voices with shouting. It was such a good time and a great energy!

Yeedah K — Google review

Cute, hokey, and gimmicky, but cute.I wish they had turned on the heaters above the seats, it was cold, which kept me from immersing myself in the experience.Definitely recommend.

Aaron F — Google review

This is the best show you'll see in Ketchikan. It's fun for the whole family. It is bleacher seating, but they have backs on them and the seating is covered. If you have someone that struggles with stairs, the front rows are for handicap, so use them. This show was definitely a highlight of our trip.
