Welcome !
We are so glad that you are here with us! At Saint Brigid Parish, we join together in community to encounter and love Jesus and one another, so we can go out and be disciples who serve the world. Come be a part of the mission with us! Whether you’re a long-time parishioner, visitor, church shopper, or making your way back to practicing your faith, there is always a place for you here. We hope that by gathering to pray, grow, and love, we all can learn to live like Jesus and become who we are called to be. Follow along with the Mass on pages 8 and 9.
Clergy Corner Deacon Mike Daniels
Catholics are Sacramental People
What this means is that through our sacraments, a direct connection is established between God and us. We receive grace directly from God, and by “grace," we mean
“love.”
While we believe God always loves us, we believe when we receive a sacrament, God is acting at that moment. He is pouring out His grace, flooding us with His love, and we are intentionally receiving it. It's a direct connection between God and us; a physical connection as we receive the sacrament; at that moment our souls are being filled to the brim with His love. Wow!
Many Christian churches are “Bible-based” churches. Their focus is on scripture, and, in truth, Catholics can learn a lot from our Christian brothers’ and sisters’ love of scripture. But the Catholic Christian experience has an added benefit. We believe that the sacraments are "efficacious signs of grace instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church by which (here is the important part) divine life is
dispensed to us." That’s worth repeating: divine life is dispensed to us. Think about what that means. God loves us so much He shares His very life with us through the sacraments. Wow again!
As the Catechism of the Catholic Church says, a sacrament is a sacred and visible sign of Jesus' presence in our lives and a means of receiving God's grace. This teaching expresses the central benefit of being a Catholic, a benefit we receive every time we receive the Holy Eucharist!
At the Lord's Supper, when Jesus took bread into His hands, He broke it, gave it to the apostles, and said,
“This is my body.” Then He took the cup of wine and said, “This is my blood. Do this (do this same thing) in remembrance of me.” These words are some of the most straightforward words Jesus ever spoke in the bible. He did not say this "represents" my body; this "symbolizes" my blood. He said, “This is my body;
this is my blood.”
In John’s Gospel, Chapter 6, Jesus said He was going to give humankind His flesh and blood as "real food"
and "real drink" so that He can live in us and we in Him; so that we may have eternal life. No one who heard Him say this suggested that Jesus was speaking metaphorically. In fact, people there that day were perplexed by the apparent cannibalism His words implied. Many disciples left Him that day, and even those who stayed didn’t understand, but they trusted Him. It wasn’t until after His death that they understood what He was saying. The greatest miracle, the greatest mystery of our faith—the
transubstantiation of bread and wine into the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ with the words of consecration at every Mass—became not just the core of Christian worship in the early Church, but "the source and summit of Christian life."
We believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist because He told us so! Is it a miracle? Yes! Is it a mystery? Yes! What a fantastic gift we who receive Him each Sunday receive!

Ministry Highlight
Discover ways to serve St. B’s, the community, and the world
Serving in our Neighbors in Need Ministry is a wonderful way to help others and meet people in our parish!
The Ministry was started in September 2010, when a handful of parishioners felt called and compelled to respond to the growing needs of low-income people in our community. On the second and fourth Mondays of the month, Neighbors in Need provides a warm, home-cooked meal and lots of hospitality to men, women, and children.
Our guests arrive on foot, by bike, and
by car. They are treated to a meal just like mom would make: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, string beans, salad, bread and butter, and drinks. In addition to the meal,
they receive a snack bag to go. Each guest is encouraged to select a clothing item such as pants, shirts, jackets, shoes, or new socks. They are treated to toiletries such as sunscreen, soap, lotion, and deodorant as well.
It takes many hands to keep this ministry running smoothly! The first crew arrives at 3 pm to prep the food and set up the hall. As the next shift arrives at 5:30 pm, everyone gathers to pray for the ministry and those they are serving. Then they serve the meal and distribute clothing, toiletries, and snack bags. Those who have served in this ministry find fellowship with fellow parishioners and guests alike.
How Can I Get Involved with Neighbors in Need?

The Way of a Disciple
Today we conclude our exploration of the 23 charisms with the gifts of Wisdom and Writing.
Wisdom
x Function: empowers one to be a channel of God’s
goodness through remarkable insight that enables him or her to come up with creative solutions to specific
problems and make good decisions
x What it looks like: People with this charism have a special ability to receive inspired insights that enable then to come up with creative solutions to specific problems and
to make good decisions. They tend to make good choices and help other people do the same. They enjoy solving practical problems by applying spiritual insights in creative ways.
Writing
x Function: empowers a Christian to be a channel of God’s creativity by using words to create works of truth or beauty that reflect the fullness of human experience and bring glory to God
x What it looks like: For people with this charism, writing feels like prayer and draws them closer to God.
Whether their writing is spiritual or secular in nature, others are nurtured and drawn closer to God, or God’s beauty and truths, because of reading their writing.

St. B’s Parishioner and Founder of Catholic In Recovery Wins “Catholic Shark Tank”
Congratulations to our very own Scott Weeman, Founder and Executive Director of Catholic In Recovery, on Winning the OSV
Innovation Challenge, alongside FemCatholic and Red Bird Ministries!
Back in February, the OSV Institute for Catholic Innovation began accepting applications for the 2021 OSV Challenge—a challenge that began in 2019 as a catalyst for growth and innovation for Catholic entrepreneurs and creators. More than 600 Catholic entrepreneurs submitted applications to win one of three $100,000 top prizes. The 12 finalists had the opportunity to virtually pitch their ideas to a panel of 5 expert judges at the Challenge Showcase.
Scott Weeman shares, “Catholic in Recovery was founded a few years after my own spiritual awakening through the Twelve Steps and reconversion into the Catholic Church.” At Catholic in Recovery, “we feel that the Church can save countless lives by integrating the spiritual wisdom of modern addiction recovery, the sacraments of the Catholic Church, and the strength of a worldwide fellowship. In the process, I envision a cultural shift where the Church will be the go-to place for individuals and families desperate to find freedom from addiction.”
Saint Brigid Parish currently hosts weekly meetings as part of our alliance with Catholic in Recovery (CIR). The meetings consist of reading literature from CIR that connects the Sunday readings with recovery principles as well as time for group sharing. There is a Men's Recovery Group and a Friends and Family Support Group. Visit catholicinrecovery.com, or email Scott at
scott@catholicinrecovery.com to learn more.

Profession of Faith
Please stand as we proclaim the creed together.
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, *and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. *(please bow during this profession) For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He
ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word
During this part of the Mass, we hear God’s Word proclaimed. We listen to preaching, which makes Scripture come alive again today, and we express our Catholic faith.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Deliver us, Lord ... Jesus Christ.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are Yours now and forever.
The Sign of Peace
The peace of the Lord be with you always. And with your spirit.
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
At this time we usually exchange a sign of sharing God’s peace by offering a handshake, hug, or similar gesture with those around us. However during these days of COVID protocols, please offer a wave or a nod of the head or other sociallydistant expression of peace.
Lamb of God
Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. 2x
Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
Please kneel as we prepare to receive the Body of Christ.
Behold the Lamb of God…the supper of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
Communion
Christ’s Body and Blood are truly, fully present as He offers Himself to us in Communion. Catholics
prepared to receive the Eucharist approach the minister as the ushers guide you. NonCatholics or those choosing to abstain from Communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing (please
indicate this by crossing your arms over your chest) or may remain in the pews to pray.

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.
