WITH AN EARLY LOOK AT RACE DAY. THE DICK’S SPORTING GOODS PITTSBURGH MARATHON IS JUST WEEKS AWAY, AND WE’RE GETTING A SNEAK PEEK INSIDE THE WAREHOUSE TO SHOW YOU HOW ORGANIZERS ARE GETTING READY FOR THE BIG DAY. THEY HAVE THINGS LIKE RELAY BATONS IN THIS WAREHOUSE AND SIGNS THAT WILL BE ALL OVER THE COURSE. WALKING INTO THIS STRIP DISTRICT WAREHOUSE, BRIAN SCHMIDT GIVES ME A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK AT WHAT GOES INTO PLANNING THE DICK’S SPORTING GOODS PITTSBURGH MARATHON. HE’S THE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS FOR P3. IT MIGHT NOT LOOK LIKE ALL THE CONES YOU WOULD NEED ON RACE WEEKEND, BUT IT’S, YOU KNOW, TO SUBSTITUTE SOME OTHER AREAS AS WELL, FROM CONES TO BARRELS, EVEN RAKES TO SCOOP UP CUPS. THE WAREHOUSE IS STUFFED. IT TAKES A LOT OF HARD WORK TO PREPARE FOR THE LARGEST DICK’S SPORTING GOODS PITTSBURGH MARATHON IN HISTORY. THE WAREHOUSE IS PACKED WITH HUNDREDS OF BOXES FILLED WITH 480,000 CUPS, 168,000 SAFETY PINS, 20,000 GALLONS OF WATER, AND 45,000 T-SHIRTS, PLUS, THE P3 TEAM PLANS TO PREP MORE THAN 1000 SIGNS AND BANNERS. FALLON DERRIG IS RUNNING THE FIVE K ON SATURDAY AND WALKING THE HALF MARATHON ON SUNDAY. SHE’S IN A GROUP CALLED CITY GIRLS WHO WALK, AND SAYS SHE CAN’T WAIT FOR THE ATMOSPHERE OF MARATHON WEEKEND. THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT THE ENERGY. YOU CHEER FOR PEOPLE THAT YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW. YOU’RE CALLING OUT THEIR NAME ON THEIR BIB. JUST SOMETHING TO GIVE THEM THAT LITTLE EXTRA PUSH WHENEVER THEY’RE JUST TRYING TO, YOU KNOW, GET THROUGH TO THE FINISH. HOMEWOOD EVERY YEAR IS KNOWN FOR THEIR PARTY, THEIR EXCITEMENT. Drivers looking to get around the city this weekend may have to change their usual route with planned closures set for the 2025 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.The weekend is expected to draw it's largest crowd of participants yet. In total, 46,000 people of all ages will take part in the marathon's weekend of events. PITTSBURGH —

Drivers looking to get around the city this weekend may have to change their usual route with planned closures set for the 2025 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

The weekend is expected to draw it's largest crowd of participants yet. In total, 46,000 people of all ages will take part in the marathon's weekend of events.

In addition to the marathon, two other events in the city are expected to draw a large crowd: The Pirates will face the Padres at 1:35 p.m. and the University of Pittsburgh will hold their commencement ceremony at PPG Paints Arena at 2:30 p.m.

Those attending Sunday's events should expect delays, plan extra travel time and be aware of race-related road closures.

Public Transit:
Pittsburgh Regional Transit will be operating according to its regular weekend schedule with extensive detours. For detour information from PRT, click here.

Regional Transit Customer Service is available weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by calling 412-442-2000 and at @pghtransitcare.

    Closures begin Friday

    During the Pittsburgh Marathon, several downtown streets will be completely closed to traffic. Those who may need to leave during the marathon should consider parking their cars outside of the closures.     Road closures for the UPMC Health Plan / UPMC Sports Medicine 5K, U.S. Steel Pittsburgh Champions Mile, and Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon will begin at 6:45 a.m. in the North Side and Downtown areas.
